Unspoken
There has been a common, striking observation I’ve been making recently, in many of the classes and collaborative workshops I’ve led. Participants come to the artist’s table with varied artistic abilities as well as just as varied communicative abilities- Myself included. Some of us have loud words, some quiet, some none. Some of us speak different languages, some of us (hearing impaired) don’t hear any of it, and all of us approach from completely different perspectives.
So, how do we WORK together, let alone create art? What I’ve witnessed is we either know the other on a level so deep “[words] can only do harm” ( ty, Depeche Mode), or the process fast tracks us to get to know another on a level previously out of reach. It often creates discomfort and frustration. In the end, though, pride, confidence, joy, and profound new connections are the reward.
Whether words or intuition are used as tools - art is always created and something deeply meaningful is born and expressed.
Art is -unimpaired communication- and dissolves barriers.
